My (almost) first week summary in 2023
A month ago, I thought it was hard to imagine that I would spend the last day of 2022 sick in bed, and it’s even harder to imagine that I caught Covid-19 virus. Yeah, we spent nearly three years trying to control the infection rate, only to see all its efforts go to waste in just one month. But on the positive side, the mortality rate from the virus is now very low (although it has become more contagious). I understand that the government needs to weigh the impact of containment policies on the economy, but I would prefer if the government gradually relaxed its containment policies rather than suddenly abandoning all control, which caught most people off guard. In any case, the first week of the new year has not been great for me physically due to my Covid infection.
But besides the physical discomfort, I’ve also done some interesting things. Because we had to stay at home, and there isn’t really much for us to do, so I bought a projector and Apple TV 4K to watch TV dramas. The projector is not a great one and I can barely see things when it’s very bright in my room. But I can always draw the curtains and enjoy the big screen projection.
With a comfortable viewing environment, the next thing I did was try to improve my viewing experience. I have Netflix and Apple TV accounts, but not all TV dramas are available on these platforms. To make it easier for me to watch what I want to watch, I set up a program on my home server that can directly play the content in my cloud storage (115) using webdav. The experience is great.
To summarize what I’ve done this week:
- TVs and movies watched: Severance, Resident Evil (all series), Shining Girls, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
- Books I’m reading: Intimate Relationship (Chinese version, 亲密关系(第6版) (豆瓣) (douban.com))
